The Dragon Boat Festival is Back!

The Dragon Boat Festival is a national holiday in China and the 16th Annual International Dragon Boat Festival will take place in Kansas City on the Country Club Plaza's Brush Creek this Saturday, June 11th from 10:00am - 2:30pm. Originally to honor a third century Chinese poet, this cultural connection event promotes international friendship through exciting boat races on traditional Chinese boats.

Theresa and Rebecca Ng from Bo Lings recently took part in an interview along with John Phillips and Jan Armstrong from the Society for Friendship with China, as well as special guest Teresa Chien, Chair of the Xi'an Sister City Committee and President of the Society for Friendship with China.

Jackie Nguyen from Cafe Cà Phê led the conversation for One Kansas City Radio's "Change Makers - Kansas City" series about this popular event recounting the origins, what this holiday means to Asian families, the tradional dish of rice dumplings (zongzi) and maybe a few blooper stories of how some racers have ended up in the water over the years.

Irvzila's Hawaiian Grill will be on hand serving food and drink from their food truck.

Please enjoy listening to this lively conversation and we hope to see you on Saturday cheering on the teams!
